Our Story
After meeting at NYU, the couple went from preparing for due dates... to sending out Save-The-Dates!
Chad and Lauren met in early September of 2014. It was the first Tuesday after Labor Day, and the first day of fall classes at NYU. Both Lauren and Chad were enrolled in the same course. Lauren hates admitting it now, but she actually disliked Chad at first! He walked into the classroom, opened up his laptop, and ignored everybody. Meanwhile, Lauren was taking copious handwritten notes, appalled by Chad's lack of concern for the class.
Needless to say, Lauren was horrified two days later when another professor in another class assigned them to be project partners for the full semester. For two months, Lauren sent Chad urgent email reminders about coursework while Chad disregarded his classwork to instead explore NYC. Somehow though, with deadlines approaching, Chad pulled his act together and submitted high-quality work. The two wound up with As in the course.
A few months later during the next semester, Chad asked Lauren to partner again on another collaborative assignment. Figuring she'd rather have the 'devil she knows' then the 'devil she doesn't know,' Lauren agreed to work together. Knowing Chad would pull through with his coursework in the end, there was less stress involved in the working relationship. Lauren and Chad got to know each other better, discovering they had some similar music tastes and other common interests.
In the summer of 2015, Chad and Lauren went to a concert together, their first meeting that wasn't academic. They learned they could hold a conversation even when it wasn't about digital media or educational topics. They made plans to see each other again, working around the hour-long train commute that separated them.
After a few more concerts, football games, and quick meals in NYC, they decided to become a couple in January of 2016. In the months that followed, Lauren found that the carefree project partner who had caused her so much stress had transformed into someone whose listening skills, wry sense of humor, and carefully planned dates all helped her learn to relax a bit more. It was a complete turnaround, and a lesson learned: She found you really can't trust first impressions.
On April 8th, 2017, Chad proposed at Hudson River Park-- a nod to their relationship with spanned both sides of the Hudson River.
